In the different areas of the archeological complex of Kuélap, located in the department of Amazonas, the rehabilitation, conservation and valorization works will be restarted. A multidisciplinary team from the Ministry of Culture of Peru has been evaluating the work already done, as confirmed by the head of Culture, Sonia Guillén Oneeglio.
The minister announced these actions in the city of Chachapoyas, after a multidisciplinary team of the ministry together with the National Copesco Plan, will carry out joint supervision at the Kuélap facilities through the Archaeological Research Project that aims to preserve and Value setting of access 1 and adjacent structures of the archaeological complex.
‘The situation in Kuélap was a major problem, a situation that required prompt intervention, which is why it has been decided, together with Copesco, to give continuity to attend to what we must work in Kuélap’, Guillén said.
The specialists of both institutions have been verifying the maintenance and protection of the existing provisional coverage of the archaeological complex. In addition to the work of monitoring, control, and monitoring of the cracks identified in all buildings.
Both teams also analyzed the protection of classified lithic material, as well as the cleaning actions of the drainage channels, both inside and outside the intervention area. The strengthening of the coverage structure was also reviewed hand in hand with the Copesco Plan of MINCETUR (Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism), and that the minister highlighted her help in obtaining the expected results.
‘They are our natural collaborators, we must also broaden the perspective of work towards the environment of the archaeological complex, with the populations, integrated into a much more active cultural management’, he said.
Cultural management of populations
Minister Sonia Guillén also referred to cultural management in the populations, indicating that it is one of the basic requirements of the project. They will focus on the proposals and programs that will be implemented in the work with the native peoples of the area.
«Obviously we have to focus on them, and from the Ministry of Culture we have a Vice Ministry of Interculturality that will work on issues of preservation of their languages and knowledge», he added.
