INPE: 288 inmates have died from Covid-19

In an interview with RPP Noticias, the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Ana Neyra, announced that a joint work with the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE), the entire prison population of the country will undergo tests for discarding the coronavirus (covid-19) . In this sense, the head of the Justice portfolio sent the request to INPE to take the corresponding coordination.

Likewise, Ana Neyra, mentioned that there are 60 thousand discard tests (to start the tests in the country’s prisons) and that the rest of them may be required in the coming days. The minister also ruled out that there is «will to conceal numbers.»

‘We have received a significant amount of evidence and are making efforts to cover the remaining ones to complete the entirety for the more than 90 thousand prisoners. About 60 thousand will start to run from Monday (27) or Tuesday (July 28), ’said the Minister of Justice and Human Rights.

Thus, the head of the Justice and Human Rights portfolio guaranteed that there will be daily monitoring of the evidence and revealed that by September there may already be an initial screening to analyze its completion; In this sense, he indicated that by August these lines of action could be ended.

He also explained that the INPE has been asked for a report on the care that is carried out in penal centers, this in the context of the health emergency. At the same time, it was also emphasized that the National Penitentiary Institute is included in the sincere figures of the Government.

The minister referred ‘I want to know in a documented way the care of how the emergency care has been given, the tests, the pharmacological care, the health centers in the prisons. I have asked [the INPE chief] for a detailed report. ’ It should be noted that according to Neyra Zegarra, so far there are 288 inmates who have died from the covid 19, 28 servers of the prison institute are also mentioned.
