Ester Ventura is the flag bearer of the textile collection «Manos Sabias». The renowned artist managed to gather Andean textiles and fabrics from the southern area of the country for more than 40 years. This exhibition is located on Asia Boulevard from January 15 to April 12. The collection made by Ester allows viewers to see and learn the secrets and ways to make each of these fabrics that were made from 1900 to 1960. You can see the textural techniques of the Quechua and Aymara communities from southern Peru.
Ester mentions that I create this exhibition to be able to share what she learned from the different cultures of the native peoples of Peru. “I have the privilege of exposing, in that public space, part of the collection that I have formed and in that way, responding to the need I have to share what I have learned about the culture of our native peoples, still valid until today in day. Each of them expresses a precise message. There is nothing randomly placed. Unraveling this language has been the central reason for the investigation that has been carried out”, said Ventura.
The textile pieces of the exhibition have been made of sheep wool, llama, alpaca, vicuña and extracted and dyed with natural pigments taken from plants, minerals or insects such as chinchilla. Some tissues of the exhibition have a religious character, are made for ritual purposes and used only by priests native to the areas.
Others are clothing fabrics for men, women, and children. With the initiative of Ester, the Boulevard of Asia seeks to offer a somewhat more artistic and cultural proposal for visitors and vacationers so that they can know the aspect of the remote towns of the capital. A culture that hides among the vast and multiple Peruvian.
