This day was established in 1985, the year in which the first “Live AID” festival was held based on an initiative by the Irish actor and musician Bob Geldof, with the helping intention to raise funds to combat the terrible crisis of famine that Ethiopia was experiencing at the time, in the area known as «Africa Horn».
This event was one of the most successful festivals of all time and had the most important and emblematic bands of the time from Europe and the United States on stage: Led Zeppelin, The Who, Black Sabbath, Queen, Sting, Judas Priest, Duran Duran, U2, Scorpions, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, and Phil Collins; and many more that made the attendees vibrate. For this reason, it was immortalized as «World Rock Day».
This mega concert that brought together the Rock wolves was held simultaneously in London (England) and in Philadelphia (United States) for 16 uninterrupted hours and was broadcast live and direct to 72 countries. Thanks to the joint efforts of various artists and the attending public, it was possible to raise 100 million dollars that were destined for the funds and rescue missions in Africa.
