Christina Koch is the 40-year-old electrical engineer who has managed to beat the women’s record with the longest time on a space flight. The woman from Livingston, Montana, arrived at the International Space Station on March 14, 2019.
Some of the activities in Koch’s extended mission is to let NASA know the effects of long space travel. According to NASA, they have mentioned that this data is necessary to create support for future deep space exploration missions such as the Moon and Mars.
Records
The North American broke the former mark of former space station commander Peggy Whitson in 2016-2017. The longest space flight is 340 days established by Scott Kelly in 2015-2016. The world record is 15 months set in the 1990s by a Russian cosmonaut in the former MIR space station.
Other records
The American astronaut would have broken other records such as the woman with the most spacewalks last October. This represented Koch’s fourth spacewalk.
