Brazil opens airports despite high numbers of people infected with Coronavirus

Brazil is one of the countries most affected by the Coronavirus, so far they have more than 2.5 million infected and around 90,000 fatalities, the weight of the exorbitant figures of the Jair Bolsonaro government has decided to open the area borders to reactivate tourism in the country.

Last Wednesday, an extraordinary resolution published by the Official Gazette reported that the South American country will receive the entrance of tourists who arrive by air, only through the Guarulhos and Viracopos airports, in Sao Paulo, Galeão, in Rio de Janeiro and Juscelino Kubitschek, in Brasilia. In the same way, it is possible to know what is not allowed to enter the country through land or sea routes, ensuring that in 30 days they can change this rule.

Foreigners who want to enter Brazil require medical insurance, in addition to proving that they are not infected with Coronavirus. At the moment, destinations to the states of Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraíba, Rondonia, Río Grande do Sul and Tocantins are prohibited, authorities reported that this could be reversed in the next 30 days.

The National Confederation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC), indicated that the neighboring country lost about 23.6 billion dollars, from tourism, due to the pandemic. On the other hand, the International Monetary Fund requested that Brazil could fall by 9.1% in its GDP.

On the same day that the government released the measure, Brazil presented a new registry of infections of the new Coronavirus, 70,000 infected in a single day, and 1,600 deaths. While the state of Sao Paulo, one of the permits by the government to receive tourists, is considered the main contagious focus in the country, with a total of 514,000 infected and 22,389 dead. Rio de Janeiro would be the third with the highest number of infections, 161,647 active cases, and 13,200 deaths.
