President Martin Vizcarra announced the prohibition of family and social gatherings at the national level, as well as the mandatory social immobilization as of this Sunday. This is because COVID-19 cases currently number 489,680 infected and 21,501 deceased.
«Enough of irresponsibility,» said Vizcarra while announcing the measure this Wednesday, August 12. However, this will be made official tomorrow through a supreme decree published in the official newspaper El Peruano.
The reason for this decision arose from the evaluation of the professionals of the Ministry of Health, which determined that intra-family infections are now the main form of expansion of the coronavirus.
“We are highlighting the ban on family reunions. Here we have a problem that we must solve together. We all know what the protection measures are when we leave our homes […]. We returned home, many times, infected by a stranger, «said the president in his speech.
“Now based on the evaluation of the professionals of the Ministry of Health they say that the main source of contagion is the people we know, our relatives who come to visit us after weeks or months. They are friends when we get together to have a football match in the neighborhood, ”added Vizcarra Cornejo.
He explained, in the same way, that people in their private meetings usually remove the mask to start celebrating and that is where the contagion begins.
“It is the family and social gatherings… like teenagers… that is generating this spike in infections. For this reason, expressly in this supreme decree that we are giving the disposition for the National Police, with the support of the Armed Forces, it is that family and social gatherings are prohibited ”.
Likewise, he reiterated that he understands the difficulty of the matter, but that he is not yet in a position to establish such ties with the people around us, whether family or friends.
