Chile: earthquake of 6.8 was registered this morning

An aftershock of 6.2 returned to haunt the Chileans moments after the earthquake. So far no deaths or injuries have been recorded.

A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.8 on the Richter scale alarmed the neighboring country of Chile during the early hours of this Tuesday. Noemí, the National Emergency Office of the Ministry of the Interior of the southern country, confirmed that the earthquake was felt in Antofagasta, Atacama and Coquimbo.

On the other hand, the authority has indicated that, despite the intensity, there has still been no record of human or material losses. According to the Chilean National Seismological Service, the earthquake had its epicenter at 60 km. north of Huasco, in the Atacama Region. It had a depth of 10.6 km.

Tsunami Warning

The strong earthquake has surprised more than one in the middle of the state of emergency that is experienced by the new coronavirus. However, the Hydrographic Service of the neighboring country confirmed that there is no tsunami alert. “The characteristics of the earthquake do not meet the necessary conditions to generate a tsunami off the coast of Chile,” they argued.

Fire belt
Like Chile, Peru is a highly seismic country. Given the health emergency, you should consider having new items in the emergency suitcase such as masks and antibacterial gel, alcohol, in addition to canned and non-perishable foods, a flashlight and a radio, as the most basic.
