36 months of preventive detention

It should be remembered that last Friday, January 31, it was announced that prosecutor Milagros Salazar, a member of the Lava Jato special team, asked the judiciary to issue a 36-month preventive detention order for the former mayor of Lima Luis Castañeda Lossio, the former congressman and founder of the Podemos Perú party, José Luna Gálvez, and the former manager of Private Investment Promotion of the Municipality of Lima Giselle Zegarra.

For the Public Ministry, Castañeda Lossio would have received the US $ 480,000 from the Brazilian construction company OAS as a contribution to the campaign that led him to the mayor’s office in Lima for the third time in 2014. The prosecution charged him with the alleged crimes of money laundering, collusion aggravated and illegal association to commit crimes in the criminal organization modality.

Also, José Luna Gálvez is investigated for money laundering and illegal association, while Giselle Zegarra, for influence peddling, aggravated collusion and illicit association to commit crimes. Both would also have been part of a criminal organization with Castañeda Lossio.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, there is a danger of escape from Luis Castañeda Lossio because on more than one occasion he showed resistance to fulfilling mandates of the authority. It details that the former mayor requested the rescheduling of his statement scheduled for June 24, 2019 twenty-five minutes before it was initiated without substantiating the reasons why he would not attend.
