Peru Rail, the train operator that provides the tourist service to the citadel of Machu Picchu has modified its tourist services in order to safeguard and protect its customers. The measure was carried out to prevent disasters due to the rainy season in the region.
This variation in services will be available until April 30 and consist of offering a bimodal service that conceives bus transfer for sectors where trains will not be able to travel.
Given this, Peru Rail has made the following information available to users:
- For Vistadome and Expedition services that depart and arrive at Proy and San Pedro station, buses will be responsible for the transfer of passengers at frequencies 31, 32, 33, 34, 302 and 604 from Wanchaq Station to Ollantaytambo Station and vice versa.
The schedules available for this route are:
- For the Belmond Hiram Bingham service, transfers will be given by private bus with shipments at Wanchaq Station to the Belmond Río Sagrado Hotel (Urubamba). From there you will board the train to Machu Picchu.

If any passenger does not wish to use this bimodal system, they can board directly at the Belmond Río Sagrado Hotel (Urubamba) or at the Ollantaytambo station.
It should be remembered that Sacred Valley, Vistadome and Expedition service systems that leave or arrive at Ollantaytambo and Urubamba station will continue their traditional pace on regular itineraries.
Cargo services:
Security restrictions also apply to the Local Train. Frequencies 21 and 22 will operate only Ollantaytambo – Machu Picchu – Hydroelectric and vice versa. Making an exception, FTSA has made available that cargo transportation and luggage service of the Local Train from San Pedro station will be allowed at the following times:
