US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) starred in an emotional speech of almost 10 minutes. The Democratic parliamentarian would have had a confrontation with her Republican partner Ted Yoho, where she would have been attacked with sexist insults, the young New Yorker did not let him go and accused Yoho in the House of Representatives, last Thursday.
The youngest member of the chamber denounced having been approached by Republican Ted Yoho on the steps of the Capitol last Monday, Yoho would have used violent language, calling her disgusting and dangerous, in addition to having said «You are crazy«, at the end of the dispute the congressman walked away saying as the last phrase «fucking bitch«. A journalist witnessing the meeting assured that the discussion was brief but heated, they also witnessed the regrettable phrase of the Republican.
AOC has not accepted the «apologies» of the congressman, who had a speech on Wednesday in the chamber, where he spoke about religion and his family, said he was very aware of the language he uses because he is married and has daughters. Although he did not mention Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, many have taken the speech as an apology.
For her part, the congresswoman of Puerto Rican descent stated that she had no plans to speak about the unfortunate event, but upon seeing Yoho made excuses for his attitude, she preferred to clarify the situation. «I don’t need Congressman Yoho to apologize. Clearly, he doesn’t want to. It is clear that when given the option, he does not and I will not stay up all night waiting for an apology from a man who does not regret insulting women and using abusive words against women”.
The video of Ocasio-Cortez’s speech was trending on social networks, from where it received the support of many people and won the admiration of men and women.
"My father, thankfully, is not alive to see how Mr. Yoho treated his daughter. My mother got to see Mr. Yoho's disrespect on the floor of this House towards me on television. I am here because I have to show my parents that…that they did not raise me to accept abuse from men." pic.twitter.com/cf0woHRf58
